The project began in September 2014, with a blank canvas. It was inspired by an art piece by Siddiqa Juma called Diversity. The objective of the project was to have people from different backgrounds, age groups and parts of society as well as the country all contribute to one art piece, in an attempt to show how we are all a united nation, irrespective of our differences.
As the piece began travelling to schools, universities, community centres, public parks and spaces, prominent locations such as the House of Lords and others, we found people truly engaged with the piece. Colour upon colour, stroke upon stroke, we had piece awe-struck by the energy within the piece. It was truly a collective piece, which showed diversity in the most simplest forms.
The piece had over 5000 unique contributors from across the country. While it is multi-coloured with thousands of strokes, layered over each other, the piece represents a cohesive society.
